Our recent trip abroad entailed two distinctly different styles to achieve the same result, sightseeing. London was the first destination which we organised ourselves and the second destination was Lake Como, in Italy, which was organised through Riviera Travel in the UK.

In London we did a sightseeing river cruise down the Thames, visited the Tower of London, a Big Bus Hop-On-Hop-Off tour of the sights, a trip on the London Eye and we saw Les Miserable. This we managed in three and a half days and then flew from London to Italy. It was a pretty hectic schedule with only the Wednesday being a relaxing day because we saw Les Mis in the afternoon, though travelling on the tube there and back to our hotel, in the rush-hour, isn’t my idea of relaxing. In fact we travelled via bus and water-bus once but the rest of the time was by tube, and that’s easy in the sense we knew where to go and when to change trains, but travelling in the London crush was remarkably hard.

Italy, on the other hand, was an organised trip. Our flights, hotel, tour guide and coach trips were all organised for us, except for the trip back to Cyprus, which we had to organise or we could have travelled back to Gatwick and then onto Italy, which may have been easier with hindsight. What a difference it made using Riviera Travel. Booking the holiday online, paying online, printing tickets etc., and then just turning up made life very easy.

When we disemabrked from the plane and cleared passport control and collected our luggage the tour guide was there waiting for us. His name was Sergio and he was obviously an experienced hand at this. He ushered onto the coach for the almost two hour journey to Lake Como and our hotel. From then on we fell in love with Italy’s Lake District. A holiday with lakes and mountains was what we expected, but it was a whole lot more than that. With very little to moan or complain about, though there were a couple of meals where the food was not, in our opinion, up to standard and the veg not fresh but frozen, but that was all. We had the best time and it was time well organised and well spent. Certainly value for money and certainly everywhere we went and all we saw were well represented by Sergio and certainly more than interesting.

Footsore and tired though we were, the adrenaline rush kept us going and the spectacular trip on the Bernina Express to St. Moritz was the highlight. Plus waking up every morning to a stunning lake view made the small amount we paid for a balcony upgrade well worth the money.

All in all, a fabulous holiday made all the more pleasurable because it was organised for us. Well done, Riviera Travel.
