It was my wife’s birthday and we were about to do something she’s be wanting to do for a long time, namely, go to Nicosia and visit the north via the pedestrian crossing at Ledra Street.

It’s not that we’ve never been to the north (for those not living in Cyprus, this is a divided nation with the United Nations controlling a buffer zone) we have, for a short break a few years back. It’s simply we never get the time.

So, today it’s a day off, mostly, and a visit to the north to buy… some wool. My wife loves knitting and she heard about this shop a while ago, so today is a golden opportunity for her. Me? I’m a bit lost when it comes to knitting. So my role is to follow the carrot and be a good boy.

Big Knit, here we come.

Tom Kane has always maintained he was born in the corner of the living room, behind the TV. So his father told him many, many times, and the family agreed wholeheartedly. That seems to have set the tone for the rest of his life. In the corner or behind the TV, what is officially known about his birth is that it took place in England.

On a more serious note, he also maintains that his mother inspired him to write. His English teacher chose his first book to read at Grammar School, which was 'The Caves of Steel' by Isaac Asimov, thus inspiring his love of science fiction. Monty Python inspired him to be very silly and he blames Billy Connolly for his infrequent bursts of bad language.
